Stillwater Stiffs 7-1-0

A quick post because I'm falling a bit behind. Over a week ago now I played my eighth game in the BCL against Scott's Human team the Darkfall Dodgers and the Stiffs managed to pull off another win. It was an interesting game as Scott's Humans were very different to the last Human team I played; Dave's Tartars. He had an Ogre in his team to help hold the line and the stock standard four Blitzers but he had no Catchers and a high number of his guys were unskilled due to some unfortunate casualties in previous games. Scott started about 150k down on me so he took Helmut Wulf and a Bloodweiser Babe as an inducement. We did the necessary dice rolling and I ended up receiving for the first half.

Helmut was target priority number one and once I managed to get him off the field with a knock out Scott's Ogre became target number two. I was only hoping to keep the Ogre down and away from the play but I got lucky in the end and sent him off with a casualty. I did the standard 8 turn grind and went 1 up at half time.

Here's the play 5 turns in:

In the second half Scott received and sent Blitzers down field for a pass. He left his thrower deep in his own zone and I realised then that he had Hail Mary Pass on his Thrower. I sent a chaser after his Thrower while trying to cover his Blitzers who were worming their way all through my half of the field. Eventually Scott had to put up the Hail Mary and it dropped just one square short of his Blitzer. I managed to recover and grind down the other end to make the score 2-0 just before the final whistle.

A close game in the end with Cas 2-1 to the Stiffs and me being very lucky to come out with a bonus TD. The Groper scored one of the TDs and a Cas, Ronaldo came up with the other TD and Verkummern chalked up another Cas bringing his total to 5. No skill ups out of this match so we will wait with bated breath for the next round.

Stillwater Stiffs 6-1-0

Been awhile since my last post sorry. Ides of May has taken up a lot of time leaving little for my own blog. Ides is now over for the year however which has allowed me to start catching up on my own gaming and painting.

The Stillwater Stiffs made an outing to the ChriBBL stadium last Thursday to play their first game for May. I drew Alex as my opponent who is playing his first season of Blood Bowl. He has started a Dwarf team and is just getting his head around the game and the team. Alex had a pretty standard Dwarf roster with all the positionals filled and Blockers to make up an 11 man team. He also has a Deathroller for his 12th man(Dwarf) which was going to be a nightmare to my Tomb Guardians.

We did all the pre-game rolling which gave us a roaring crowd of 17,000, left me with +1 Fame and gave us perfect sunny Blood Bowl weather to play in. Alex was also 110 down on team rating so he took a bribe.

Alex kicked off leaving the Deathroller off for the first drive. I started my grind up field and managed to isolate most of his blockers on the line and keep them down. One blocker ended up Badly Hurt in the first turn and another was sent off from a foul spotted by the ref where Alex decided to save his bribe to keep the Deathroller on the pitch later. Alex's Troll Slayers caused a massive headache with one in particular killing Dusty; one of my Tomb Guardians (he regened thank god) and then seriously injuring one of my Skeletons; Nok Nees, with a strength bust that has put an end to Nok's Blood Bowl career.

I slowly pushed down the pitch and Ronaldo took the ball over the line with two turns left. Because Alex was down a couple of players this meant the Deathroller had to take to the field with only two turns to go. The last two turns played out without too much excitement and we got ready for the second half.

Nuffle did not bless Alex with good dice rolling to start the second half as he rolled up a one for his bribe. Seems the ref was happy to take Alex's money and run. We started the second half with me kicking and by turn three one of my Blitz-Ras managed to turn over the ball. My Tomb Guardians managed to hold the line while Jack Flash picked up the ball and headed for the end zone. Alex put the pressure on and started knocking down a high number of my guys and I thought it best to step over for the second score rather than wind down the clock. We set up for the last three turns and I kicked to Alex again. I managed to get behind his line and turn the ball over but there was no way for me to score unless I attempted the fabled Khemri passing play! Ronaldo went for the ball and managed to gather it up then flicked off a quick pass to Jumpin' Jack Flash. The pass was accurate and I held my breath as I rolled for the catch...6! Jack managed to wrap his bony fingers around the floating ball and ran into the endzone just before the final whistle.

Happy with another win for the Stiffs but I feel for Alex's rather poor luck at exactly the wrong time. Losing a Blocker so early and then rolling a one for his bribe was crippling for Alex's team. He put a hell of a beating on the Stiffs and I was so relieved that Dusty managed to regen. Nok Nees was a necessary casualty to win the game and we'll keep him in our memories for a very, very, very reasonable amount of time in honour of the sacrifice he's made.

Looking forward to next week now and to the next team I end up playing. More posts are coming  :)
